Working at Fort Monmouth meant going out to lunch with co-workers in Eatontown, and the place to go for a quick couple slices was always Guido’s Famous Pizza. Years later I still think of Guido’s as the Eatontown steady when it comes to pizza. A basic no frills pizza joint with weekly specials and other Italian standards that make for a great dinner to-go, or a quick meal in a classic red booth that you will find in many pizza joints across the tri-state area. There’s something about consistency that makes you feel at home, whether you’re looking up at old black and white photos adorning the walls, or sipping on some fountain soda while downing a few slices, Guido’s Famous Pizza is Eatontown’s classic pizza joint for any occasion.

A fixture of the Eatontown community for more than 30 years, entrepreneur Freddie Cohen of “Freddie’s Grill 2.0” uses his unique creativity and culinary skills to satisfy every craving. Specializing in Kosher Syrian cuisine, specifically handheld hors d’ourves called Mazza, Freddie takes old time classics and puts a modern, delicious spin on them. From Grandma Julie’s kibbeh, to tangy lachamagene, spicy beef cigars, fluffy potato Knishes, and crispy empanadas, each bite is homemade and crafted with love. Freddie works alongside his business partner, his wife, Debbie, and the duo embodies what it means to run a true family business. Another staple of Jersey, and an essential for really any town, is a local Italian restaurant fit for the whole family. We aren’t talking about some endless salad and bread sticks chain, but an honest to goodness Italian restaurant where you can get some hearty Rigatoni Bolognese, Manicotti (pronounced mahn-a-gaht by locals), or some Chicken Sorrentino with prosciutto (pronounced bra-zhoot by my family). More than just a pizza place (if that wasn’t obvious from the name) Olivia’s II Pizza & Pasta is the perfect mix of everything we love about living in Jersey.
